Tottenham midfielder Gareth Bale is a major doubt for Wales’ World Cup qualifier against Croatia, according to Wales boss Chris Coleman.
The 23-year-old battled with virus and ankle injury ahead of the Scotland match, but he still found himself in the starting line-up.
Bale, however, lasted just 45 minutes on the pitch before he was replaced at half-time, and is now doubtful for the crucial qualifier against Croatia. Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey misses out through suspension.
“We’ve only had him for 45 minutes and albeit a jaded Gareth,” Wales boss Chris Coleman was quoted as saying.
“He’s been ill, he had a knock on his ankle but he wanted to play, he said he felt fine, so that’s why we started him.
“But he’s had a knock after 30-35 minutes on the same ankle, so we had to bring him off.
“Now all we can do is wrap Gareth up in cotton will – but if he is not ready then we can’t risk him.”
Wales remained seven points adrift of Belgium and Croatia despite the impressive victory against Scotland, but they now have a chance to return into contention for a place at the tournament finals.
A win over Croatia would certainly be a step in the right direction, and Wales are 5.75 (19/4) at BetVictor to win their second successive World Cup qualifier.
