Championship promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest have broken their transfer record to sign Britt Assombolonga from Peterborough United.

The 21 year old’s tally of twenty-four league goals saw him finish as the joint top scorer in the third tier last season, and the bookmakers had him as the favourite to win the League One golden boot in the forthcoming campaign.

However, having secured a big money move to Forest, he can now be backed at 26.0 (25/1) with a variety of firms to finish as top scorer in the Championship.

Stuart Pearce’s side begin the season with a home game against relegation favourites Blackpool on Saturday, and can be backed at 1.33 (1/3) with Coral to take all three points while Assombolonga is a 4.5 (7/2) shot across the board to get the first goal of the game.

Forest also signed winger Michail Antonio from Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday, taking the total of new arrivals at the City Ground this summer to ten.

Defenders Louis Laing, Michael Mancienne and Jack Hunt have all arrived in recent weeks with the latter joining on loan, while deals have also been struck for midfielder Chris Burke and forwards Lars Veldwijk and Matty Fryatt.

David Vaughan and Danny Fox have also penned permanent deals at the City Ground having spent the latter part of last season Trentside on loan from Sunderland and Southampton respectively.

They began the week by selling both defender Jamaal Lascelles and goalkeeper Karl Darlow to Newcastle United, but the pair have been immediately loaned back to the East Midlands side, all in all giving Pearce a strong looking squad for the forthcoming campaign – his first since returning to the club he served with such distinction for twelve years as a player.

Following their season opener against Blackpool, they have back to back away games against Bolton Wanderers and Bournemouth, and Sky Bet offer 15.0 (14/1) for them to take a maximum nine points from those fixtures.

They are at a best price of 7.0 (6/1) with Coral to achieve promotion back to the top flight after a sixteen year absence, while they can be backed at a generous 19.0 (18/1) with a variety of firms to win the division outright.
