Feyenoord vs VitesseHaving recorded a hard-fought triumph over ADO Den Haag in their opening fixture, Feyenoord go into the Heerenveen game hoping to extend the good run of results.

The Frisians, on the other hand, suffered a shocking home defeat to Dordrecht and now plan to try and make amends at De Kuip.

Feyenoord enjoyed a stunning season last term with what was a very inexperienced side, securing Champions League qualification with a second-place finish, but the club then paid the price for the success.

The Dutch giants not only stayed without boss Ronald Koeman, but also saw Graziano Pelle, Bruno Martins Indi, Daryl Janmaat and Stefan de Vrij leave for greener pastures.

As a result, they were unable to match experienced Besiktas side in the Champions League qualifiers, losing both matches, although they will have a chance to make it to Europa League group stages.

Feyenoord somehow managed to start the league campaign with a win as they scored late against ADO Den Haag, with Fred Rutten’s side now 1.53 (8/15) to defeat Heerenveen as well.

With no fresh injuries to report, the boss could field a similar line-up to that which won the previous game, although Mitchell te Vrede is pushing for a start.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Mulder – Wilkshire, van Beek, Mathijsen, Kongolo – Immers, Clasie, Vilhena – Basacikoglu, Manu, Boetius.

A very good finish of the league campaign did not prove enough for Heerenveen to clinch European qualification as they eventually failed to win the Europa League play-offs.

The squad have since undergone major changes as the likes of Finnbogason, van La Parra, Basacikoglu, Kum and Kruswijk all left, with the club apparently failing to sign proper replacements.

That was probably the reason why the Frisians were beaten at home by Dordrecht in their opening fixture despite taking the lead through Hakim Ziyech.

Chances are they now face an even tougher task at De Kuip, so everything suggests another disappointing defeat is on the horizon.

Pele van Anholt remains on the sidelines, but the good news is there are no other selection worries for new boss Dwight Lodeweges.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Nordfelt – Marzo, van Aken, Buijs, Raitala – de Roon, van den Berg – Slagveer, Ziyech, Sinkgraven – Uth.
