Evian vs Lyon preview

Last season surprise package Evian are looking for their first points this season, but the match against league leaders Lyon is not exactly the perfect opportunity for a win.

Even if they were seen as one of the main candidates for the drop after gaining promotion from Ligue 2, les Roses did brilliantly to avoid the relegation tussle and finished the league campaign in the top half of the standings.

However, the team now look like they can be the casualties of the famous second-season syndrome, having lost their first two games of the campaign.

In all fairness, boss Pablo Correa has been missing several players through injury, but that alone cannot be an excuse for the under-par showings.

Following defeats to Bordeaux and Brest, Evian hope to show some improvement against Lyon, but odds of 3.75 (11/4) offered at BetVictor on home win suggest the hosts are in for a difficult job.

Pablo Correa will have Fabian Ehret, Sidney Govou and Mickael Salomone back in the side, but Jonathan Mensah and Herve Bugnet remain sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Andersen – Dja Djedje, Angoula, Cambon, Wass – Lacour, Sorlin, Rabiu, Barbosa – Khelifa, Berigaud.

Unlike Evian, Olympique Lyon have been pretty disappointing last term, but they have enjoyed a very good start to the new season.

Les Gones first beat Montpellier in the Trophee des Champions match before beating Rennes and Troyes in Ligue 1, with Remi Garde’s side 2.20 (6/5) with William Hill to win this match as well.

Lyon may have stayed without Kim Kallstrom and Ederson this summer, but Michel Bastos, Aly Cissokho and Hugo Lloris all stayed despite heavy interest from top European clubs.

Les Gones even signed Milan Bisevac from PSG few days ago, and he was handed a debut in the 4-1 win over Troyes.

Yoan Gourcuff is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury in the aforementioned game, but centre-back Dejan Lovren is back in contention for this game.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Lloris – Dabo, Kone, Bisevac, Cissokho – Fofana, Gonalons – Briand, Grenier, Lopez – Gomis.
