Cesare Prandelli names Italy squad for EURO 2012 qualifiers

Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has announced a 24-man squad for EURO 2012 qualifiers against Faroe Islands and Slovenia.

Having taken 16 points from first 6 qualifying games, the Azzurri need just few more points to clinch the first place in the group, and they could easily ensure automatic qualification even before the Slovenia game.

Boss Cesare Prandelli has recalled Fiorentina’s wantaway striker Alberto Gilardino, while Manchester City out of favour striker Mario Balotelli is also included.

Alessandro Matri misses out through injury, but Giuseppe Rossi and Antonio Cassano keep their places in the squad.

Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Morgan De Sanctis (Napoli), Salvatore Sirigu (Paris Saint-Germain).

Defenders: Davide Astori (Cagliari), Federico Balzaretti (Palermo), Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus), Mattia Cassani (Fiorentina), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), Domenico Criscito (Zenit St Petersburg), Christian Maggio (Napoli), Andrea Ranocchia (Inter Milan).

Midfielders: Alberto Aquilani (AC Milan), Daniele De Rossi (Roma), Claudio Marchisio (Juventus), Riccardo Montolivo (Fiorentina), Thiago Motta (Inter Milan), Antonio Nocerino (Palermo), Andrea Pirlo (Juventus).

Forwards: Mario Balotelli (Manchester City), Antonio Cassano (AC Milan), Alberto Gilardino (Fiorentina), Sebastian Giovinco (Parma), Giampaolo Pazzini (Inter Milan), Giuseppe Rossi (Villarreal).
