Brazil coach admits Selecao below par against Venezuela

Brazil coach Mano Menezes was clearly unhappy with the goalless draw against Venezuela, while he stated that his players had been too predictable on the day.

The Selecao could only muster a goalless draw in their opening match against Venezuela, thus putting extra pressure on the players before the games against Paraguay and Ecuador.

Mano Menezes is adamant that Brazil have got to improve if they are to reach the final stages of the competition.

“The result was bad, because we played better than Venezuela. We had the control and the initiative of the match, but we lacked clarity in some choices, mainly to find players in the finishing moments,” Menezes said at a press conference.

“We were too obvious. The ball got to the players who were wide, but they were too far away from Pato and the play could not flow. That is something we have to work on during the week.”

The talented coach refused to blame the poor state of the pitch for the under-par performance.

“It looks to me that the pitch hindered faster plays and plays of more quality. However, that is not our problem. We have to look over our performance and correct our problems.”

Despite the goalless draw with Venezuela, Brazil are still considered favourites for the place in group B, probably because Paraguay and Ecuador also played out a 0:0 draw, and Selecao are 1.50 (1/2) with Bet365 to win group B.
