Benfica vs PSG preview

Benfica have been in impressive form this season and nobody was surprised with their double victory over Stuttgart, although the Eagles now face a much tougher task.

Last weekend Benfica ended the incredible 18-match winning run, but the defeat to Braga is unlikely to ruin the good atmosphere in the squad.

Jorge Jesus faces severe selection problems at the moment, as no less than six players couldn’t train with the team on Tuesday and they are all doubtful for the clash with PSG.

Luisao, Oscar Cardozo, Ruben Amorin, Nicolas Gaitan, Pablo Aimar and Eduardo Salvio trained separately on Tuesday and their fitness will be reassessed before the game.

Paris Saint-Germain encountered unexpected problems against BATE Borisov in the first knockout round but the Saints somehow made it through on away goals.

Antoine Kombouare’s side will have to show a massive improvement if they are to get something from this match, especially after the weekend’s defeat to Auxerre.

The Saints also enter the game without several first team regulars, as the boss has decided to rest a couple of starters for the Montpellier game on Sunday.

Jeremy Clement misses out through suspension, while Ludovic Giuly, Claude Makelele, Guillaume Hoarau and Chrisophe Jallet have also stayed in France.

Even with several players out through injury, Benfica look like the favourites here as they take this game more seriously than the opponents, and home win pays 1.70 (7/10) at William Hill.
