Heerenveen vs AjaxAjax made a giant step towards the new Eredivisie title as they defeated bitter rivals PSV Eindhoven away from home, and they now plan to edge closer to the trophy by seeing off Heerenveen.

This will be anything but a walk in the past for the hosts, given that the Frisians arrive in Amsterdam on the back of six wins in last seven games.

It is fair to say Ajax haven’t really impressed this season, but they did manage to hit the ground running at the best possible time.

The amazing run of results began shortly after the Amsterdammers were eliminated from Europe, with the six-match winning streak setting the team on course to the third successive league title.

It is only fair that Ajax win the title after they proved their worth by beating direct rivals PSV Eindhoven at their home ground, with the 3-2 win at the weekend keeping the team in good stead for the Heerenveen match.

While home win pays just 1.20 (1/5) at Sportingbet, Ajax can be backed to score three goals or more at 1.62 (5/8) at bet365.

First choice keeper Keneth Vermeer serves the final match of his two-game ban, while Davy Klaassen is an injury doubt.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Cillessen – van Rhijn, Alderweireld, Moisander, Blind – Schone, Poulsen, Eriksen – Fischer, Sigthorsson, de Jong.

Heerenveen were always going to have problems after a number of key players left the club during off-season, and the team indeed largely struggled in the first part of the league campaign.

Nevertheless, as the season unfolded, Marco van Basten’s side kept raising their game, and, just like their next opponents, the Frisians have been absolutely brilliant of late.

Heerenveen climbed to Europa League play-off places thanks to the run of six wins in seven games and they have reason to believe they can get something from Amsterdam ArenA as well.

Having beaten the likes of Twente, PSV and Feyenoord, among others, the Frisians are 4.50 (7/2) at BetFred to produce an upset and avoid defeat in Amsterdam.

There have been more good news for Marco van Basten as key midfielder and new Benfica signing Filip Djuricic has recovered from respiratory problems, but defender Christiaan Kum is a major doubt.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Nordfelt – van Anholt, Kum, Kruswijk, Raitala – Kums, Djuricic, van den Berg – van La Parra, Finnbogason, El Ghanassy.
