Cameroon vs GuineaCameroon somehow managed to escape defeat in their opening game, but they now have to show a major improvement if they want to stay in contention for quarter-final berths.

Guinea, on the other hand, can be quite satisfied with their performance against tournament favourites Ivory Coast, even if they failed to hold on to a one-goal lead.

Many were surprised to see national team chiefs stick with Volker Finke following a shocking performance at the 2014 World Cup, with the poor atmosphere in the squad eventually forcing star players Samuel Eto’o and Alex Song to retire.

The German coach in turn decided to rejuvenate his squad, introducing a host of inexperienced footballers, which proved a very good move seeing as the Indomitable Lions impressed in the 2015 AFCON qualifiers, finishing the campaign four points above Ivory Coast.

And while they shared spoils with Congo DR and South Africa in the build up to the tournament finals, Cameroon were pretty disappointing in their opening match against Mali.

The Indomitable Lions showed a lot of character to come from a goal behind and earn a valuable point, but it is important to note they were completely outclassed by their less illustrious opponents.

Cameroon now face a must-win game against Guinea before battling Ivory Coast in the final group game, and they are 2.00 (1/1) to claim maximum points.

Coach Volker Finke will be delighted to welcome back captain Stephane M’Bia from suspension, and he is expected to start after shaking off a minor knock.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Ondoa – Oyongo, N’Koulou, Chedjou, Bedimo – Loe, M’Bia – Moukandjo, Choupo-Moting, Salli – Aboubakar.

It took Guinea almost 30 years since the second-place finish in 1976 to achieve a meaningful result at the AFCON finals, with the team reaching the quarter-finals in 2004, 2006 and 2008.

Coach Michel Dussuyer was unable to take his strongest side to Equatorial Guinea, as Ismael Bangoura, Lass Bangoura and Sadio Diallo miss out for one reason or another.

But, even if they were seen as major underdogs in the opening fixture against Ivory Coast, Syli Nationale dominated the proceedings for much of the game, deservedly taking one point from the match.

Guinea should have killed off the game after Gervinho had been sent off, but they can, nonetheless, feel optimistic ahead of the Cameroon clash.

Captain Kamil Zayatte again looks set to miss out through injury, but the impressive attacking trio of Traore, Yatarra and Conte is expected to cause all sorts of problems to the opposition defenders.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): N. Yatarra – Sankoh, Pogba, F. Camara, Sylla – Keita, Fofana, Constant – Traore, Yatarra, Conte.
