Twente vs Levante preview

Sitting four and five points adrift of Levante and Hannover, Twente are well aware they will be effectively out of the competition if they fail to win this game.

The Spaniards, on the other hand, significantly improved their chances with the 3-0 win at Estadio Ciudad de Valencia, and all they have to do now is avoid defeat in Holland.

Twente entered the new season without two main attacking outlets Luuk de Jong and Ola John, but new signings Luc Castaignos and especially Dusan Tadic did really well to replace the Netherlands internationals.

As a result, the Tukkers enjoyed a memorable start to the season, winning 11 of first 13 games in all competitions, but their European showings left a lot to be desired.

After squandering a two-goal lead against Hannover, Steve McClaren’s side came from two goals behind to earn another 2-2 draw, this time away to Helsingborg, but it was the 3-0 defeat to Levante that acted as a major blow to their qualifying chances.

Nothing is lost just yet, however, given that the Tukkers still have two more home games, and they are now 1.80 (4/5) favourites with Ladbrokes to get revenge on Levante.

Important attacker Nacer Chadli has picked up an ankle injury and could be out for a couple of weeks, but Dedryck Boyata returns from a domestic suspension.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Mihaylov – Rosales, Douglas, Bengtsson, Braafheid – Jansse, Brama, Schilder – Tadic, Castaignos, Cabral.

The mere fact Levante finished the previous La Liga campaign just three points behind Champions League places shows how far the team have come over the last few years.

The club from Valencia did stay without top scorer Arouna Kone, but free agent Obafemi Martins made everyone at the club quickly forget all about the Ivorian striker.

As a result, Levante started the season strongly, climbing to 6th in La Liga, while taking six points from first three Europa League group games.

Juan Ignacio Martinez’s side are now eager to finish the job in Holland, but odds of 5.00 (4/1) offered at BetVictor on away win suggest they will not have an easy task.

Obafemi Martins is not registered for the competition, while Dariusz Dudka and Nabil El Zhar miss out through injury. Theofanis Gekas and Juanfran Garcia return to the side.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Navas – Lell, Rodas, Ballesteros, Karabelas – Iborra, Diop – Rios, Michel, Juanlu – Gekas.
