Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has insisted that he remains unconcerned by striker Luis Suarez’s current form.

Despite having found the net 16 times in all competitions so far this season, the Uruguayan has not hit the same heights as any of his previous campaigns with the Catalans. He has not scored in La Liga since the middle of January and has only been on the scoresheet once in his last 15 appearances in the UEFA Champions League.

However, despite those numbers, Valverde remains satisfied with Suarez’s performances. Talking to ESPN following Barcelona’s 0-0 stalemate with Lyon on Tuesday evening, he said: “It doesn’t worry me.

“It would worry me if he wasn’t getting chances, which is what you ask for from a centre-forward and [even] if he doesn’t have chances, he creates them for his teammates.

“Opponents are frightened of him. He [must] be reserving himself..football is a game of margins. Strikers have runs [of goals] and the best thing is he’s getting chances.”

Suarez joined the club in a £75m deal from Liverpool in 2014. He has racked up a phenomenal record since having bagged 168 goals and 90 assists in 231 appearances in all competitions.

Barca are back in action on Saturday afternoon as they face Sevilla in the league. Suarez is at 9/2 with Betfred to score the opening goal of the game.
