Andy CarrollLiverpool striker Andy Carroll has been forced to withdraw from England squad for friendly matches against Republic of Ireland and Brazil due to a foot injury.

The FA announced the news on Tuesday evening, stating that Roy Hodgson had opted against calling a replacement.

“Andy Carroll has been ruled out of the England squad for the upcoming internationals with Republic of Ireland and Brazil,” an FA statement read.

“Carroll had been named in Roy Hodgson’s squad that will take on Ireland at Wembley on Wednesday, May 29, and then travel to Rio to face Brazil on June 2, but has now been forced to withdraw through injury. No replacement will be made at this time.”

The towering striker returned to international reckoning following some scintillating displays during his loan spell at West Ham.

Sky Sports understands that the Hammers have just agreed a transfer fee with Liverpool to make the player’s stay at Boleyn Ground permanent.

Carroll will not be able to help the Three Lions in a friendly against Republic of Ireland, where England are 1.53 (8/15) favourites with Coral to return to winning ways after sharing spoils with Montenegro last time out.
