Tottenham vs NewcastlePremier League top 6 rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United will square off at White Hart Lane in the Capital One Cup quarter-final.

And while Spurs are buoyed by the last-gasp triumph over Swansea, their opponents are still reeling from the 4-1 loss at the Emirates.

This has been quite a tumultuous season for Tottenham Hotspur, who have largely struggled for consistency in the opening exchanges.

The Europa League campaign cannot be considered an excuse for under-par showings in the Premier League as Spurs have more than enough strength in depth to successfully compete in all the competitions entered.

Following the 3-0 loss to Chelsea and a goalless draw against Crystal Palace, Tottenham went into the Swansea clash low on confidence and they were far from impressive at the Liberty Stadium.

However, Spurs scored two goals against the run of play to record a very important win that should keep them in good stead ahead of the League Cup clash against Newcastle.

And with their opponents missing a host of first team regulars, bear in mind that Tottenham are 1.85 (17/20) to claim maximum points.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino is widely expected to make wholesale changes to the squad, with Emmanuel Adebayor back in contention after returning from personal leave.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Vorm – Naughton, Chiriches, Vertonghen, Rose – Lennon, Stambouli, Dembele, Townsend – Soldado, Adebayor.

Newcastle United showed a great deal of character to recover from the dismal start to the season, but the latest injury crisis again took the wind out of team’s sails.

With Alan Pardew’s squad stripped to bare bones, the Magpies did brilliantly to beat leaders Chelsea at St James’ Park, but they could do nothing to avoid a 4-1 defeat at the Emirates.

And with the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland scheduled for Sunday, the Capital Cup game against Tottenham clearly comes at a bad time.

Nevertheless, with Alan Pardew adamant his side will take the competition very seriously, you should know the Magpies are 2.88 (17/9) to make it to the semis.

The good news is that Steven Taylor and Moussa Sissoko are back from suspension, but now Daryl Janmaat is banned for the Spurs clash.

Meanwhile, the likes of Rolando Aarons, Gabriel Obertan, Ryan Taylor, Tim Krul, Rob Elliot, Siem de Jong and Davide Santon remain on the sidelines.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Alnwick – Anita, Williamson, S. Taylor, Haidara – Tiote, Colback – Cabella, Sissoko, Ameobi – Armstrong.
