Tottenham vs Chelsea preview

Tottenham Hotspur enter the London derby from the third place in the standings, aiming to increase their advantage over the rivals for the top 4 place.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have got to try and win at White Hart Lane after sharing spoils with Wigan, so everything suggests we are going to see a very interesting game.

Having witnessed the devastating effect of the Champions League campaign on his side’s top 4 chances last term, Harry Redknapp made it clear that Europa League was of no interest to him this term.

That is proving to be a great decision even if the Spurs were eliminated from Europe, as they have so far done brilliantly in the Premiership.

The unlucky defeat to Stoke did end their magnificent run of results, but the hard-fought victory over Sunderland saw Spurs climb to the third place in the standings, despite having a game in hand.

Considering how well Tottenham are playing at the moment, backing them to achieve a top 4 finish at odds of 1.53 (8/15) offered by William Hill looks like the right thing to do.

Spurs have been absolutely phenomenal at White Hart Lane this season, winning their last six league games there, so odds of 2.63 (13/8) offered by Stan James on home win do look tempting.

Harry Redknapp faces some selection problems before the Chelsea game seeing that Aaron Lennon has been ruled out through a hamstring tear, whereas both Gareth Bale and Jermain Defoe are doubtful.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-1-1): Friedel – Walker, Gallas, King, Assou-Ekotto – Modric, Parker, Sandro, Bale – Van der Vaart – Adebayor.

It’s been six years since Chelsea last won a league game at White Hart Lane, and considering their recent showings, the Blues clearly enter this match as underdogs.

Andre Villas-Boas’ side have been terribly inconsistent this term, with even the most experienced players unable to stabilize their form.

Arguably the most important players in the side Drogba, Lampard, Torres and Terry are running hot and cold this season, and no wonder that Villas-Boas keeps changing his line-ups.

After the Blues finally notched up a couple of wins in a row, they produced an under-par performance against Wigan and ended up missing out on the victory that would see them return to the title race.

The players are clearly out of confidence at the moment and with the dressing room atmosphere at an all time low, Chelsea are certainly not worth backing here, even if Unibet pays 2.80 (9/5) on away win.

John Terry is a doubt with an Achilles injury, but David Luiz and Ramires should be fit despite missing training this week.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Cech – Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole – Ramires, Romeu, Meireles – Sturridge, Drogba, Mata.
