Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa Preview

Having led his team to a third straight victory at Manchester United last weekend, and rewriting a 23 year old statistic in the process, Andre Villas Boas’ Tottenham Hotspur host Aston Villa at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts may recall Brad Friedel, William Gallas and Sandro, who missed Thursday’s Europa League draw at Panathinaikos, whilst Emanuel Adebayor has recovered from a hamstring injury.

Adebayor, who has hardly featured since making his move to Spurs permanent in August, is 6.0 (5/1) with Ladbrokes to open the scoring while top scorer Jermaine Defoe is favourite to get the first goal of the game, with at a best price of 5.0 (4/1).

Spurs are odds on favourites, with Paddy Power offering the best price of 1.50 (1/2) with Villa as high as 8.0 (7/1) for the victory. The draw is 4.6 (18/5) with Bet Victor.

Aston Villa currently sit fifteenth in the table, having salvaged a point in their West Midlands derby clash with West Bromwich Albion last time weekend.

Darren Bent, who will be keen to prove his worth following a frustrating spell at White Hart Lane, could well be handed a start having scored the equaliser a week ago; the England international priced at 9.0 (8/1) with most firms to open the scoring.

Tottenham won the corresponding fixture last November, with Emmanuel Adebayor getting both goals in a 2-0 victory. With the sides in contrasting veins of form, you maybe be tempted to back a repeat of that score line, with William Hill offering odds of 8.0 (7/1).

However, Spurs only clean sheets this season have come in the League Cup and Europa League with Carlo Cudicini and Hugo Lloris keeping goal in those respective ties. With this this in mind, you might be tempted to back the Spurs victory with Darren Bent scoring anytime at 8.0 (7/1) with William Hill.

Alternatively, at 1.85 (17/20) Bet Victor have the best odds available for both teams to score in the game; a generous offer considering that the two sides have only failed to score once between them in the league this term.
