BBC Newcastle has revealed that Sunderland are on the verge of signing Dutch defender Patrick van Aanholt from Chelsea.
The Black Cats stayed without two players who featured at left-back last season as Marcos Alonso returned to Fiorentina and Phil Bardsley joined Stoke City.
As a result they have made a move on Chelsea youngster Patrick van Aanholt and the agreement appears on the horizon.
With the 23-year-old’s contract at Stamford Bridge due to expire in a year’s time, the Blues appear ready to cash on on the talented defender.
Van Aanholt has been playing regular football over the last two and a half years having been at loan spell at Vitesse, where he scored 5 goals in 70 Eredivisie appearances.
It appears he will finally get the chance to prove his worth in English Premier League, where Sunderland are 4.00 (3/1) to finish in top 10.
