Sunday’s Premier League action kicks off at St Mary’s Stadium where Southampton take on Everton.

The host’s go in to the game on the back of back-to-back defeats while they have won just three of their opening twelve games and begin the weekend in fourteenth place, one point and two places above their opponents.

A return to winning ways could see them climb into the top half depending on results elsewhere while another defeat will edge them closer to the dreaded dotted line.

Oriol Romeu will miss this game through suspension after accumulating five yellow cards so Mario Lemina could deputise, if he is passed fit in time.

Charlie Austin is favourite to open the scoring at 4.1 (41/10) with Unibet with Shane Long a 7.0 (6/1) chance with Bet 365 though the pair have just one league goal between them so far this season.

The home win is priced at 1.91 (10/11) with a variety of firms, with the visitors as highly priced as the 4.8 (19/5) on offer from Unibet. The draw is widely available at 3.5 (5/2).

Having seemingly stopped the rot with a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Watford earlier this month the Toffees dropped points against bottom of the table Crystal Palace last weekend and followed that with a frankly embarrassing 5-1 home defeat to Atlanta in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

Oumar Niasse misses out after becoming the first player to ever be retrospectively suspended for simulation with Tom Davies also banned while Phil Jagielka and Morgan Schneiderlin are both injury doubts.

Wayne Rooney is 9.5 (17/2) to get the first goal of the game with Bet 365, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin an 11.0 (10/1) shot with the same firm.

Both of last season’s meetings between the sides ended in home wins with Charlie Austin’s first minute goal enough to clinch victory for the Saints on the south coast twelve months ago before the Toffees won 3-0 at Goodison Park in January.

In fact, six of the last seven clashes have ended in victories to nil, so you may want to back at least one clean sheet here at 1.8 (4/5) with Betfair.
