Sergio Aguero injuryManchester City staff have moved to confirm that star striker Sergio Aguero has picked up a muscle injury in the Champions League clash against Barcelona.

The Argentine was withdrawn at half-time due to a muscle injury and he looks set for another spell on the sidelines at the worst possible time.

“It’s very early to say, so we cannot yet say how long he (Aguero) is going to be out,” City assistant manager Ruben Cousillas said. “He felt some kind of pain in his muscle.

“We are doing some tests to assess it. It will be up to the medical staff who determine the extent of the injury, so we cannot speculate about this.”

Sergio Aguero had already missed six weeks of action through calf and hamstring injuries and his absence has been the main reason for team’s under-par results of late.

Having been eliminated from the Champions League and FA Cup, the Citizens can fully focus on the Premier League campaign, where they are 2.88 (17/9) to lift the trophy.

Manchester City currently sit nine points behind leaders Chelsea, but have three games in hand, although they have yet to face Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool on the road.
