Sunday’s Premier League action from St James’s Park sees Newcastle United take on Manchester United.

The hosts go in to the game in seventeenth place following Saturday’s results, only above the dreaded dotted line by virtue of goal difference with theirs far superior to eighteenth place Stoke City.

They are without a victory in five games in all competitions, with three of their last four outings ending 1-1 though a return to winning ways here would see them rise to to thirteenth place, at least until Southampton take on Liverpool later in the day.

Having signed from Leicester City on loan on transfer deadline day, Islam Slimani may have to wait for his debut as he struggles to shake of a thigh problem though Ciaran Clark has shaken off a knee injury so should retain his place.

Dwight Gayle is 10.0 (9/1) to open the scoring with William Hill, with Joselu an 11.0 (10/1) with a variety of firms.

The home win is as highly priced as the 6.0 (5/1) on offer from a number of bookmakers with the visitors favourites at a widely available 1.67 (4/6). The draw can be backed at 3.95 (56/19) with Unibet.

Jose Mourinho’s men beat Huddersfield Town last time out to close the gap between themselves and leaders Manchester City to thirteen points, though that gap has widened once more following Saturday evening’s match at the Etihad Stadium.

Regardless of what their neighbours are doing, they will be keen to hold an advantage over the rest of the chasing pack and both Liverpool and Chelsea will have an eye on proceedings ahead of their respective fixtures.

The Red Devils have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the game though Eric Bailly and Marouane Fellaini remain absent while Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not expected to feature despite returning to training.

Romelu Lukaku is favourite to open the scoring at 4.5 (7/2) ahead of Alexis Sanchez, who is a 5.2 (21/5) shot with Unibet.

Both of the last two meetings have seen over 4.5 goals so you may be tempted to back that outcome here at 8.0 (7/1) with Betfair with the same firm offering 2.05 (21/20) for both teams to score.
