Manchester United vs Stoke City Preview

Sunday’s Premier League action kicks off at Old Trafford where Manchester United take on Stoke City.

The hosts followed a recent run of three defeats with three successive victories, a run that includes the 4-1 win win over champions Leicester City last time out in the league.

They go in to the game six points behind leaders Manchester City, who face Tottenham Hotspur later in the day and success her could see them move into second spot depending on Liverpool’s result against Swansea City in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Manager Jose Mourinho could welcome back Luke Shaw and Henrikh Mkhitaryan back as the pair have recovered from illness and injury respectively and captain Wayne Rooney could earn a league recall after impressing in Europe midweek though Phil Jones continues to miss out with a knee problem.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who got his first goal in five with the winner against Zorya on Thursday evening, is favourite to open the scoring at 4.0 (3/1) with a number of firms with Marcus Rashford a 6.5 (11/2) chance with Paddy Power.

The home win is priced at 1.33 (1/3) with most bookmakers with the visitors widely available at 11.0 (10/1). The draw can be backed at 5.75 (19/4) with Paddy Power.

Struggling Stoke picked up only their second point of the season last weekend, Solomon Rondon scoring in stoppage time to give West Bromwich Albion a share of the spoils at the Bet 365 Stadium.

That result did take them off the bottom of the table though they could go into this game in twentieth position should Sunderland get at least against West Brom on Saturday.

Joe Allen, who got his first goal for the club last time out could miss out with a hamstring injury and Jack Butland remains out while Jon Walters may return.

Wilfried Bony is 13.0 (12/1) to get the first goal of the game, with Marko Arnautovic a 17.0 (16/1) chance with Bet 365.

Both of last season’s meetings between the sides ended in home wins to nil and you may be tempted to bet on that being the outcome this time around at a price of 2.14 (8/7) with 888 Sport.
