The weekend’s Premier League action concludes at Old Trafford where third place Manchester United host a Southampton side just one place and one point below them in the table.

The hosts beat Yeovil Town in their FA Cup third round tie last weekend to extend their unbeaten run to eleven games, though three draws from their last four league games have left them nine points behind leaders Chelsea and champions Manchester City.

Louis van Gaal is bolstered by the return to fitness of summer signings Daley Blind, Angel Di Maria, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo while Marouane Fellaini and Antonio Valencia could also feature though Ashley Young is out with a hamstring injury.

Robin van Persie is favourite to open the scoring at 5.5 (9/2) with a variety of firms, with Radamel Falcao a 6.5 (11/2) chance with Paddy Power.

United are favourites for the win at 1.9 (9/10) with Stan James, with the Saints as highly priced as the 4.75 (15/4) on offer from Bet Victor while the draw is a 3.8 (14/5) shot with 888 Sport.

Having recently strung together a run of five straight defeats, Ronald Koeman’s men are now five without a loss though they were only able to draw with Championship high-flyers Ipswich Town in the FA Cup a week ago.

Eljero Elia could make his debut after signing from Werder Bremen and both Nathaniel Clyne and Jack Cork are both set to return after recovering from their respective ankle injuries though Maya Yoshida is on international duty along with Sadio Mane, though he also has a calf complaint.

Top scorer Graziano Pelle is 9.5 (17/2) to get the first goal of the game with Bet Victor, ahead of 10.5 (19/2) chance Shane Long.

A Van Persie double secured a 2-1 victory for Manchester United when these two sides met at St Mary’s a month ago, a result which stretched their unbeaten run in this fixture to eleven matches.

However, both teams have scored in each of the last six clashes, so you may be tempted to back a home win with both teams scoring in the game at 4.3 (33/10) with 888 Sport.
