Arguably the pick of Wednesday evening’s Premier League fixtures takes place at Anfield where Liverpool face leaders Arsenal.

The Reds go in to the game six points off the top four having lost 2-0 to West Ham United last time out in the league while they were unable to get past League Two Exeter City in their FA Cup third round tie on Friday evening, drawing 2-2.

Victory here will see them move to within nine points of the Gunners though defeat could see them slip into the bottom half of the table should other results also go against them.

Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure are both available for selection as is Steven Caulker, who could make his debut after arriving on loan from Queens Park Rangers.

Jordan Ibe, James Milner and captain Jordan Henderson could also return for Jurgen Klopp’s side though Philippe Coutinho, Dejan Lovren, Daniel Sturridge, Martin Skrtel, Joe Gomez, Jordan Rossiter and Danny Ings are all out.

Christian Benteke is priced at 7.0 (6/1) to get the first goal of the game with a number of firms ahead of Roberto Firmino who is a 9.0 (8/1) shot with Bet 365.

The home win is widely available at 2.88 (15/8), with the visitors favourites at 2.7 (17/10) with Paddy Power. The draw can be backed at 3.5 (5/2) with Bet 365.

Arsenal are two points clear of second place Leicester City and three ahead of title favourites Manchester City with twenty games played.

They followed back-to-back league victories with a win over Sunderland in the cup on Saturday and another triumph here will see them tighten their grip at the top as they look to win a first league title in twelve seasons.

Germany duo Mesut Ozil and Per Mertersacker are likely to return after they were both rested at the weekend while Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere remain out.

Olivier Giroud is favourite to open the scoring at 6.5 (11/2) with Bet Victor, with Theo Walcott a 7.5 (13/2) chance with the same firm.

The two sides played out a 0-0 draw back in August though the previous four clashes saw a combined total of eighteen goals, so you may be tempted to back over 3.5 this time around at 3.7 (27/10) with Bet Victor.
