Kostas ManolasGoal.com has suggested that Arsenal are on the verge of signing Greek defender Kostas Manolas from Olympiakos.

The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has revealed his plans to add a new central defender to his ranks after Thomas Vermaelen had moved to Barcelona and it appears the Frenchman has succeeded in his quest.

Goal.com has learned that Kostas Manolas is undergoing a medical in North London as the two clubs agreed on a €10 million transfer fee.

Olympiakos sporting director Christian Karembeu said few days ago that Juventus and few clubs from England have submitted offers for the highly rated centre-back.

And it now appears Arsenal have won the chase to sign the player who impressed while playing for Greece at the 2014 World Cup.

The Gunners have enjoyed a winning start to the new Premier League campaign as Aaron Ramsey scored an injury-time winner against Crystal Palace, but their performance was far from convincing.

Arsenal take on Besiktas away on Tuesday in the first leg of the Champions League play-offs, with the Gunners 1.67 (2/3) favourites to win the match.
