Jonjo ShelveyEngland boss Roy Hodgson admits Swansea star Jonjo Shelvey remains in his plans despite the fact the former Liverpool midfielder last appeared for the national team in October 2012.

The Three Lions coach has called four uncapped players for the friendly against Norway and Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland, with Jack Colback, Danny Rose, Fabian Delph and Calum Chambers getting a chance to shine.

There was no place in the squad for Jonjo Shelvey even if the midfielder has continued the rich vein of form, but Roy Hodgson has moved to reassure the 22-year-old footballer.

“A player like Jonjo is always going to be in our thoughts,” Hodgson said. “I do know him better than I know the two players I have selected this time.

“I’ve worked with Jonjo Shelvey and know him quite well in fact, I made him captain of the Under-21 team in the one game I had.

“So this was an opportunity for me to get a look at those two players, if I was to select Jonjo I know what he can bring.”

Swansea wingers Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge have also impressed in the opening exchanges, but neither of them were called in the latest England squad.

The Swans have enjoyed a dream start to the new Premier League campaign, winning all three fixtures so far, and they are currently 1.91 (10/11) for a top 10 finish.
