Harry RedknappFormer Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has announces his resignation from the post at Queens Park Rangers.

The 67-year-old quoted a knee replacement surgery as the main reason behind his decision to leave the Rs, but the reality is he was already facing the sack after a string of poor results.

“I need immediate surgery,” said Redknapp. “If I can’t give 100%, it’s better for someone else to take over.

“I have had such a fantastic time at QPR. I would like to thank the board, the players and all my staff, and especially the supporters who have been absolutely fantastic to me.

“My relationship with chairman Tony Fernandes has been one of the highlights of my footballing career and I wish the club every success.

“I am confident they will survive in the Premier League this year.”

QPR head of football operations Les Ferdinand and coach Chris Ramsey will be in charge of the team until a replacement is found.

The Rangers sit one point adrift of safety after taking just two points from last six matches, and next three fixtures against Saints, Sunderland and Hull could prove very important.

Queens Park Rangers do seem to have enough quality to avoid the drop and they can be backed at 2.50 (3/2) not to get relegated.
