Everton need a win on the final day of the season to finish above fierce rivals Liverpool for the third time in last 25 years, whereas Newcastle still hope to clinch the final Champions League berth in spite of weekend’s defeat to Manchester City.
This season has been pretty successful for the Toffees when we take into account the limited resources and a very small squad David Moyes had at his disposal.
Everton may have had a lot of problems in the opening stage of the league campaign, but everything changed with the arrival of Steven Pienaar and Nikica Jelavic, who inspired the team to some impressive showings in the second part of the season.
As a result, the Toffees are now unbeaten in last eight Premier League games and currently occupy 7th place in the standings, although they are just one point clear of Liverpool and Fulham.
Finishing above bitter rivals Liverpool would be a great incentive for David Moyes’ side, and that is one of the reasons why Ladbrokes pay 2.25 (5/4) on home win.
Leighton Baines, Phil Neville and Darron Gibson are all set to return, but Victor Anichebe and Jack Rodwell are out injured.
Probable starting line-up (4-4-1-1): Howard – Hibbert, Jagielka, Distin, Baines – Osman, Fellaini, Gibson, Pienaar – Cahill – Jelavic.
Newcastle United appear to have missed their opportunity to clinch the final Champions League berth, although the Magpies are still hoping they can beat either Tottenham or Arsenal to the fourth place in the standings.
While the impressive victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge kept their Champions League hopes alive, Alan Pardew’s side just couldn’t stop Manchester City from winning at St James Park, even if they had played a good game against Premier League leaders.
Following the 2-0 defeat to City, Newcastle sit one and two points adrift of Tottenham and Arsenal respectively, meaning they will need a couple of favours from other clubs in addition to their victory at Goodison Park if they are to achieve a top 4 finish.
The Magpies will try to keep their part of the bargain by claiming maximum points at Goodison Park and BetVictor has them at 3.30 (23/10) to do so.
Wantaway defender Danny Simpson misses out with an ankle injury, whereas Leon Best is sidelined with a thigh problem.
Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Krul – Perch, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon – Gutierrez, Cabaye, Tiote – Ben Arfa, Cisse, Ba.
