Newcastle United full-back Davide Santon has received a call up to Italy squad for a friendly game against France, the English Premier League club announced on their official website.

Italy boss Cesare Prandelli will name his full squad this evening, but it has been revealed that the talented defender is set to return to international fold.

Santon will see the latest call-up as a reward for some impressive performances during the last year that have seen him develop into one of the best full-backs in English Premier League.

The 21-year-old returns to the national team after a year and a half, having made the last of his seven appearances for Azzurri in March 2011.

Italy have moved three places up in FIFA World Rankings having won their last three 2014 World Cup qualifiers and they now occupy the fifth place in the overall standings.

Friendly match against France will be another excellent opportunity for the Azzurri to test their skills against a top European side, with home win paying 2.25 (5/4) at Paddy Power.
