Darren Bent makes a shock switch to Aston Villa

Aston Villa have completed the £24 million signing of Darren Bent from Sunderland after the striker had sent in a written transfer request to Sunderland board.

This will probably go down as one of the most controversial transfer deals in Premiership history seeing the player decided to leave high-flying Sunderland and a club that look to have a very bright future to join relegation threatened Aston Villa.

It is, therefore, little wonder that Black Cats boss Steve Bruce felt quite aggrieved by Bent’s decision.

“It’s hugely disappointing that Darren has decided that his future lies away from Sunderland and the players, our supporters and the club as a whole has every right to feel massively let down,” Bruce told the club’s official website.

“The timing is especially hard to take, given that we are progressing positively and are in a great position to push on.”

We are yet to see if Darren Bent’s arrival will improve Villa’s fortunes, but if you believe this is possible, bear in mind that Paddy Power pays 3.20 (11/5) on Aston Villa to finish the Premiership campaign in top half.
