Daniel SturridgeLiverpool’s hopes of kick-starting their season took another major blow as striker Daniel Sturridge suffered a new setback, BBC Sport can reveal.

The England international injured his thigh in training on Tuesday and is set to have a scan on the problem later today.

Sturridge has missed a big chunk of Liverpool’s campaign through thigh and calf strains, and it appears he is no closer to returning into action.

And with Mario Balotelli picking up a hamstring problem while on international duty, Brendan Rodgers faces serious attacking crisis ahead of the weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace, where the Reds are 1.86 (43/50) to return to winning ways.

Liverpool have gone through a very rough patch of late, losing last two Premiership fixtures to slip to 11th in the overall standings.

The Reds also face an uphill task in their CL group, where they sit three points behind second-placed Basel ahead of the final two fixtures.
