Premier League Trophy

A party atmosphere can be expected at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as champions Chelsea face a Sunderland side fresh from securing their Premier League status on Wednesday evening.

The hosts saw their eighteen game unbeaten run ended at West Bromwich Albion on Monday with the title already in the bag, but will look to end the season in style before being handed the trophy at the end of the game.

Their only home league defeat in over two years came against Sunderland last April, with that result also Jose Mourinho’s only ever home league loss as Chelsea manager.

PFA Player of the Year Eden Hazard has had his wisdom teeth removed, so may not feature while Kurt Zouma, Oscar and Ramires are definitely out though goalkeeper Petr Cech may recover from a neck problem in time to be considered for what is likely to be his last match for the club.

Top scorer Diego Costa is favourite to open the scoring at 4.33 (10/3) with a number of firms, with Didier Drogba, who like Cech may also be leaving the club in the summer, a 6.0 (5/1) chance with Ladbrokes.

The home win is 1.36 (4/11) with most firms, with the visitors as highly priced as the 12.0 (11/1) on offer from Bet Victor. The draw can be backed at 5.5 (9/2) with Betfair.

A point at the Emirates Stadium was enough to ensure survival for Dick Advocat’s side midweek, so they can go in to this game safe in the knowledge that they will be playing top-flight football next season.

The Black Cats have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the game, so could be unchanged from the 0-0 in North London.

Paddy Power have Jermaine Defoe priced at 13.0 (12/1) in the first goalscorers market, with the same firm offering 15.0 (14/1) for Steven Fletcher.

The sides cancelled each other out when they met at the Stadium of Light back in November – the first goalless draw between the sides in almost thirteen years.

However, with the pressure off, there could well be goals here and the hosts can be backed at 1.44 (4/9) with Sky Bet to net at least twice.
