Jan Vertonghen SpursBarcelona are set to reignite interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen, according to Spanish daily newspaper AS.

It is no secret the Catalans are on the lookout for a long-term successor to Carles Puyol, but they have so far had little success in their quest.

And with their efforts to sign one of Jeremy Mathieu, Mats Hummels and Marquinhos not producing results, Barcelona officials look set to turn their attention towards Jan Vertonghen.

The Catalans are set to open talks with the Premier League side hoping they will be able to agree a deal that would see the Belgian move to Camp Nou.

At the moment, Tottenham are not too keen on selling their prized asset, but it is believed they would not be able to reject a big money offer.

With that in mind, Barcelona are 1.80 (4/5) to sign Vertonghen this summer, whereas Manchester United and Manchester City are 9.00 (8/1) and 11.00 (10/1) respectively to beat them to the player’s signature.

Jan Vertonghen, 27, joined Spurs in a €12 million deal from Ajax two years ago and went on to score 4 goals in 57 Premier League appearances.
