Arsenal Football Club have announced on their official website that they have signed French defender Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle.
The experienced defender arrives at the Emirates as a replacement for international teammate Bacary Sagna, who has been playing second fiddle to him in the national team.
Arsene Wenger was delighted with the capture of Debuchy, who is expected to slot straight into the starting line-up in North London.
“He is a quality defender who has good Premier League experience and I’m confident he will fit in very well with us,” said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
“He has shown he can perform at the highest level with his club sides and also for France.”
This is the second quality signing of the summer for the Gunners after they recruited Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona, with Bacary Sagna the only notable departure so far.
