ElnenyPremier League high-flyers Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement to recruit Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel, according to BBC Sport.

The Gunners were on the lookout for a holding midfielder after both Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin had suffered injuries and they appear to have found their man.

BBC Sport have learned that Arsenal are in advanced talks with FC Basel over a £5 million deal for Elneny.

The 23-year-old would require a work permit in order to seal his move to the Emirates, but having been an important member of the national team over the last couple of years, chances are his application will be successful.

The good news is that Elneny would also be able to represent Arsenal in Europe with FC Basel having failed to reach Champions League group stages this term.

Elneny joined the Swiss giants from Al Mokawloon in January 2013 and has since made 91 league appearances for the club, scoring 5 goals.
