Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has lost his place in the first team over the past couple of months.

The Armenia international kicked off the campaign in formidable form and was backed by Jose Mourinho to succeed after a disappointing debut season in the Premier League.

Having provided five assists in his opening three Premier League matches, Henrikh Mkhitaryan suffered a dip in form which saw him struggle to earn his place back in the squad after the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in November.

Mkhitaryan is far from happy with his current squad status and is believed to be looking for a swift solution which led to speculation that he could leave Manchester United during winter.

Inter Milan are said to be keeping a close watch on the Armenian with Luciano Spalletti a huge admirer of Mkhitaryan’s talents. The Serie A giants are restricted by the Financial Fair Play which forced them to consider making a swap deal for the Manchester United man which would involve sending Joao Mario to Old Trafford.

The latest reports, however, suggest that Jose Mourinho is eager to cash in on the 28-year-old midfielder in order to earn funds that could help him materialise a move for Antoine Griezmann.

With Inter Milan being pushed out of the frame for the Armenia playmaker, German media outlet Ruhr Nachrichten is reporting that Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund have intensified contacts with former player Mkhitaryan over a possible return to Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund are keen on a reunion but are well-aware of the major hurdle that need to be overcome if such a scenario is to be realised during winter.

Manchester United are said to be willing to let the Armenian leave for £15 million which is feasible, but the player himself would have to give up a good chunk of his estimated annual income worth £11 million which is way above Dortmund’s price range.

Manchester United play Derby County in the FA Cup third-round clash at Old Trafford tomorrow an Mkhitaryan could be given a chance to shine.

Red Devils stand at 1.81 (13/16) to Win to Nil whereas they can also be backed at 1.85 (11/13) to record a HT/FT victory.
