Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen Preview

Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich get their league campaign back underway on Saturday afternoon as they host Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena.

The reigning German champions got their 2018/19 campaign off to the best possible before the international break having taken two wins out of as many games. They kicked off their campaign with a 3-1 win over Hoffenheim before an emphatic 3-0 win over Stuttgart. As a result, they sit top of the table at this early stage, just edging out Wolfsburg and Hertha Berlin on goal difference. As expected, Niko Kovac’s men are the overwhelming favourites to win the Bundesliga with eye-watering odds of 1/14 available to back them with William Hill.

Elsewhere, Leverkusen have endured a hugely frustrating start to the season and are yet to pick up a point. Currently only one place off the bottom of the table, they have lost both of their opening games against Borussia Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg. Should they not get their first victory sooner rather than later, they could potentially slip into trouble. In comparison to Bayern, Heiko Herrlich’s troops are at 66/1 to win the Bundesliga, whilst they surprisingly are one of the least fancied to be relegated from the top flight.

Coming into the clash at the Allianz, the visitors are not much predicted to pick up a positive result against their illustrious opponents. Bayern are overwhelming favourites to claim victory with odds of 1/4 for the hosts to claim three points. Meanwhile, Bayer can be backed at 12/1 to win with Paddy Power.

These odds are possibly justified considering the head to head record between the two teams. Bayern have won 22 of their last 33 games against their opponents. Conversely, Bayer have only won one out of their last ten games against Bayern. Their task is made even more difficult considering that they have not claimed victory at the Allianz Arena since a 2-1 victory back in October 2012. The two most recent league clashes between the two sides both ended 3-1 to Bayern Munich. The odds of this scoreline to be repeated are 19/2 with BetVictor.

Robert Lewandowski is one of the favourites to open the scoring on Saturday. Odds are available of 2/1 with Betfred for the Polish forward to hit the opening goal. Meanwhile, Kevin Volland is one of the most likely to find the net first for the away side according to the bookies. The German can be backed at 14/1.

In regards to other players, Bayern do not have any injuries to concern themselves with. However, Herrlich will be without Panagiotis Retsos and Joel Pohjanpalo for the trip.
