La Liga giants FC Barcelona are reportedly close to the sealing the surprise signing of Sassuolo midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng.

According to Sky Sports, the Blaugrana have been looking to bolster their midfielder options and are close to agreeing a deal that would see the Ghanaian move to the Nou Camp on loan. The report also suggests that Sassuolo general director Giovanni Carnevali will travel to Spain over the next few days to negotiate a deal that will see the Catalans pay a loan fee of £1.75m, with a fee of £7m mooted should the transfer be made permanent in the summer.

Boateng has had a positive season so far in Serie A having made 15 appearances and scored five goals in all competitions. The now 31-year-old only joined the club in the summer following spells throughout his career with European giants such as AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and Schalke 04. He has also had spells at Portsmouth, Genoa, Las Palmas and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Barcelona currently sit top of La Liga and five points clear of closest challengers Atletico Madrid  under the stewardship of Ernesto Valverde. They can be backed at odds of as short of 1/12 to win the league come the end of the season with BetVictor.
