Barcelona defender Jordi Alba has suggested that Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata would be welcome at the Nou Camp, should the Catalans be interested in a deal for the striker.

There were reports earlier this week that the Spanish champions were eyeing a potential loan swoop for the Chelsea striker to bolster their attacking options. The Spaniard, signed from Real Madrid last summer, has struggled to settle at Stamford Bridge.

Despite his difficulties, Jordi Alba has told that the forward could be a good fit in Catalonia. Talking to Diario AS, the 29-year-old said: “Morata has been a fantastic player for many years.

“I appreciate him a lot and we have been teammates (with the Spanish national team) but ultimately it is up to the club as to make a move.

“New players are always welcome at Barca and Alvaro would be no different.”

In 69 appearances for the West London club, Morata has scored 22 goals. The ex-Juventus man has so far scored seven goals in his second full season with Chelsea.

He could be ruled out for the weekend’s clash against Brighton & Hove Albion having been withdrawn against MOL Vidi. Despite that, he is still at 4/1 with Paddy Power to score the opening goal at the AMEX Stadium.
